Maturity-stage transition patterns

The transition from one maturity stage to the next is rarely sharp. Recognition that the brand has transitioned typically lags the actual transition by one or two cycles.

Foundations to depth transition signals:

  • AS lifts from Critical band into Developing band sustainably
  • O-pillar reaches a maintenance plateau (continued work, but high marginal-cost lift)
  • Brand-recognition gate substantially clears on at least one major platform
  • Brand stakeholder begins asking content questions rather than infrastructure questions

Depth to authority transition signals:

  • AS approaches Strong band
  • M-pillar work has produced substantive content surface
  • VS begins showing category-tier signal
  • The brand has produced citable content surface that subsequent authority work can leverage

Authority to sustained-authority transition signals:

  • AS in Strong-to-Elite range
  • G-pillar work is producing compounding rather than initial citation
  • VS is showing prominence-tier signal across multiple platforms
  • The brand operates with maintenance discipline rather than initial-establishment discipline

The transitions are real but gradual. Practitioners should expect the brand’s behavior to shift over multiple cycles rather than at clean stage boundaries.
